{"id":130,"date":"2012-09-04T21:05:03","date_gmt":"2012-09-04T21:05:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wiganarchsoc.co.uk\/?p=130"},"modified":"2012-12-01T21:29:09","modified_gmt":"2012-12-01T21:29:09","slug":"september-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wiganarchsoc.co.uk\/blog\/?p=130","title":{"rendered":"September Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wednesday 5<sup>th<\/sup> September<\/span> \u2013 in the Standish Suit at the Brocket Arms (7.30pm as usual).\u00a0 This month we have <strong>Brian Grimsditch<\/strong> who is Senior Archaeologist at the <a title=\"Centre for Applied Archaeology\" href=\"http:\/\/www.salford.ac.uk\/built-environment\/research\/applied-archaeology\" target=\"_blank\">Centre for Applied Archaeology<\/a> (CfAA) at Salford University. He has been involved in the running of the Dig Greater Manchester project which included the dig at Etherstone Hall in Leigh earlier this year. His talk however will be on something a little different.\u00a0 Besthorpe is a project that Brian has been involved with over a number year now. Predominantly a Romano-British site, but evidence is starting to emerge of earlier occupation &#8211; from Mesolithic to late Iron Age. This takes the form of prehistoric pottery, polished stone axes, metal artefacts and lots of worked flint.
