What's New Upcoming Events 2nd July : Bernard Champness - "St Francis of Ancoats" August : Mellor - "Summer Trip"	Welcome to the Wigan Archaeological Society Our small but well-established group was formed in 1982. We meet once a month in Wigan for lectures and discussions on topics of historical or archaeological interest. We have a coach trip in the summer and carry out fieldwork during the year (including excavations). The aims of the society are: To expand the knowledge and awareness of our local, national and international heritage. Increase our understanding of the historical significance of the area. Provide a base for research and a resource for field projects within the area. Over the years our society has carried out a number of field projects within the Wigan district. We are currently working to make the reports of these projects available on-line through the projects area of our web site. 	Monthly Meetings The society meets at the Baden Powell Centre (District Scout HQ) in Greenough Street - on the first Wednesday of the month (except January and August). There is ample free parking around the back - admission is £3.00. The Baden Powell Centre is located at the bottom end of Greenough Street - on the right if approached from Hindley and the left if approached from Tesco's.
